Hands Free Pumping Bra
What Is A Hands Free Pumping Bra?
One of the most innovative products to come out recently to help nursing mums is the invention of the hands free pumping bra. Traditionally, bra pumps have always required some manual work i.e mothers needing to express milk themselves. Obviously this causes a few problems mainly:
- Taking away your time from doing other things while expressing breast milk (not that it is a bad thing either). This becomes an issue especially when you have important things to do like work, family commitments, house cleaning etc.
The hands free pumping bra empowers nursing mothers the convenience to pump breast milk while allowing them to do other things. In a way, you can say that mums can multitask and do other things while they express breast milk for their newborn.
There are many different brands to choose from if you are interesting in the hands free pumping bra.
Here are some of the main brands in the market today:
- Simple Wishes Hands Free Breast Pump
- PumpEase Hands Free Breast Pump
- Medela Hands Free Bra Breast Pumps
The way a hands free pumping bra works is simply by using:
- A bra like material that you can wear around your bust area. Instead of a bra shaped thing it looks like a blend between a chest band and a bra.
- It is REALLY comfortable to wear it and it is mainly made of soft cotton and spandex material that causes very little to no irritation on your skin.
- They are adjustable in size and they come mainly with an adjustable back panel made of Velcro.
- Of course, these products come in various sizes to fit different body shapes. Sizes XS to XXL are available on all of them.
- There is also a centre panel that allows some leeway (approximately 2”) in movement so that you can position the breastpump flanges or bottles in the right place.
BUT…Do You Really Need A Hands Free Pumping Bra?
No doubt, this question will come across your mind. Obviously, you would have spent lots of money purchasing baby clothing, nursing needs, nursing clothes, baby room décor etc so why add another product on top of your ever growing list of things to buy???
Here are some reasons you need to think about if you are thinking twice:
- Hands Free Pumping Bras are cheap! – They don’t cost hundreds of dollars to buy let alone $100. It doesn’t even cost $50! Expect to spend somewhere between $30 – $40 OR find time (which most of you are having difficulty) to express milk manually. Which would you prefer????
- Multitask – Any nursing mum will tell you that it can take at least half an hour to express milk through a breast pump. Some may take longer depending on milk supply. Having a hands free pumping bra gives you the time to do other things while pumping milk (as mentioned above).
- Breast engorgement, mastitis, breast tenderness – These are some common issues associated with breastfeeding. It can be uncomfortable to have your baby latch onto your breast to feed them. Having one of these products relieves you of this problem while allowing yourself time to recover from them.
- Inverted or Flat Nipples – Our bodies are all different. Flat or inverted nipples make latching difficult; hence making it difficult to breastfeed. In this situation, having a breast pump allows your child to get the right nutrition while saving yourself the headache of latching problems.
- Multiple pregnancies –You might be gifted with twins, triples, quadruplets or even more! It is quite impossible to feed all of them through breastfeeding in a day. Obviously, most of your day will be gone feeding your babies.
- Cleft lip/palate, Attachment problems – Sometimes the issue is that your baby is born with conditions like cleft lip or cleft palate that makes breastfeeding difficult. You will definitely need at least a breast pump to help you with it but why go with a manual breast pump when you can opt for a hands free breast pump?
There are many more reasons why you should think of getting a hands free pumping bra. But the overall benefits outweigh the money (very affordable though…) spent on one and the time saved from expressing milk manually.
Do They All Look The Same?
Of course, some mums would like to feel trendy when breastfeeding. There are many different types of hands free pumping bras styles and design in the market to choose from. Expect to find
- Various pattern ones like those from PumpEase (Snugabell)
- Organic material ones from PumpEase (Snugabell)
- Comfortable, good fitting and easy to wear ones from Simple Wishes (comes in two colours).
